Jim Basketball Jones Says . . .

Students were treated to an excellent message during an assembly today.  Jim Basketball Jones focused on applying kindness and care to everyone around you. He encouraged students to look for the good in classmates and to have each others' backs.

In addition, he performed an array of basketball tricks that excited the school, and kept everyone engaged.  His ability to spin and juggle basketballs amazed everyone present.

Jones pulled a lot of students up to the front to help with his demonstration and utilized them to help with his message of  becoming successful through hard work, responsibility, and making good choices.

According to Jim Basketball Jones Website:

In first grade, Jim Jones was diagnosed with dyslexia. Jim’s struggles were so great that he immediately found himself placed in a special education program. It would take Jim five years working with his tutors and speech therapists before he would make it into a regular classroom.

This adversity fundamentally shaped Jim’s view of the world, and provided him with many early life lessons about the good of accepting help from others, overcoming adversity, and learning to appreciate difference. These would later become the cornerstones of his career as a public speaker.

One of the main motivations in Jones's life was wanting to be like his brother, Mike.  This makes me wonder, what is your motivation?  What makes you like you are?  Who do you follow?  What did the assembly mean to you?

I liked the assembly because it was really fun and Jim Jones tought us about kindnes and how to treat other people nicely. I like being nice to people because it results with other people being kind to you and they like talking to you and being around you. I think now everyone might be nice to other people so they get treated with kindnes and with respect so people don't think that you are a mean person.

I think that my main motivation to do sports is watching the pros on T.V. So I really liked the assembly. It really made me think and want to work really hard at everything that I do. The assembly really meant a lot to me because it made me think about wanting to go to a good college, and how I should always try hard so I can go to that college.

I think that the assembly was educational because he was teaching us about being kind, and always having your friends backs. I think that him having dyslexia makes what he does even more interesting. I think that because Jim has dyslexia is something that most people would think makes him not good at anything. Jim is the kind of person that doesn't give up, and he gets help when he needs help. He tries his hardest to accomplish what he wants to accomplish.

The assembly was cool and he tote me that you should never give up. I think it was grate to have him back and show us all his cool tricks. He also tote me to keep my head up and be happy if you did not get a basketball. I like how he had the kids hold the ball in there on the pins I relay like how that one kid held the ball on the pin in his moth. I hope he will come to the hi school next year so I can try to when a ball.

The assembly meant a lot to me. I think this assembly was better than the assembly 2 years ago. The assembly taught me that no one is better than me, no one is perfect, but we all matter and we are all very important. I follow my step dad. His name is BJ. He is a paramedic and he became very successful. He went to collage for 4 years and he makes a decent amount of money. My motivation is my step dad. When I see how good he is doing with his job and his life. I think I would like to be as successful as him. I don't want to be a paramedic though. My mom makes me what I am. She tells me to do good in school most of the time. My mom said that I need to participate in activities like band for more credit in school.

Basketball Jones taught me a lot of great lessons that will help me in life, at the assembly. I learned that you should always try your absolute hardest no matter how hard things might be. I also learned that to be a good friend, you should let your friends shine and they should let you shine too. That way, you're both in the spotlight.

Another thing I learned that I think is important is that everything you do is your fault. Whether it's a good thing or a bad thing, everything is your fault. For example, if you're trying to get a bunch of people to line up from girls to boys in a straight line in one minute, you'll probably have some little kids that don't know what to do. So if time runs out and nobody helped them get where they need to be, then it is everyone's fault.

My main motivation is seeing the Pros play sports on T.V. It makes me want to get to that position. So I want to work really hard. I would want to get to that position because I love sports.

I really liked the assembly. It really made me want to work really hard yo achieve my goals in life. When Basketball Jones said that you have to work hard to go to a college that you want to. So that makes me want to study and work super hard in school. I also really liked all of his basketball tricks.

The person that I followed the most was my Grandpa. He was the one that made me like I am today. He taught me respect and to always be happy.

This assembly made me realize how many people don't have friends or possibly even any family. It made me feel better about myself and how nice it is to have friends instead of being alone all the time. After the assembly I started to have a lot more respect for my friends.

My motivation is sports players. I love sports so much that I want to be like them.

The assembly we had today was the best assembly we ever had it was so cool. I liked how Jim was really nice he was funny and he was cool. I think next year he should come back even though I'm not going to be here I think kids will have manners some and Jim will teach the kids some more manners it will be real good on some of the little kids so they can grow up and have manners to people. I liked how Jim was giving away his basketballs and other stuff and making kids happy and playing games and having fun.

Jim is so nice I would like to have him to come again and we would all have more fun. I would learn so much from him that I would be nicer. I liked how to day when he was doing all theses trick's with his basketballs it was cool. He tough us a lot of stuff. I would like to grow up and be like my aunts and be smart like them and actually make something out of myself.

My thoughts about the Basketball Jones assembly was that it was exiting to have Jim Basketball Jones at our school and perform awesome tricks and personally I was honoured to be able to be up front and be apart of his activity. I also appreciate him taking the time and talking to us about being kindness and appreciation. Jim Basketball Jones is a kind person and I was happy he was able to come here and talk to us and give out prizes for being kind and working together.

What motivates me ever day is to go to school and do my best like I always do. Then some times I get motivated by my friends and that sometimes gets me in trouble so I decided to just do what I do. For now on I am going to just be what I want to be.

I think my motivation is wanting to be in the Air Force because I see other people serving their county and I think that will be good to do the same thing and I think it will be fun.

I thought the assembly was good and I think he was saying that you can do anything that you want to be.

My motivation is wanting to be like my 3rd grade teacher Mrs. Kabel. When she teaches she gets it out in a way that's understandable. When you get in trouble she is mean, but you learn your lesson. That's why She is the one that motivates me.

Today the Assembly that we have today(from Jim Basketball Jones), to me, it meant to be respectful, responsible, thankful, and a role model for the younger ones so they will have a person to follow. You always have to do the best and be the best for someone to look up to you, even if its between life or death. I think this also meant to be a supporter. To be friendly and kind to everyone that surrounds you. Jim Basketball Jones said" Whenever you talk to some one by the end of the conversation the person that you are talking to should feel even better about them self(s)". That is what you should do every time you talk to some one. That is what I think the assembly meant to me.

The person that really motivates me is my dad because he has a successful job and earns the money he needs to get through his life and that really inspires me that he doesn't need a lot of money he only wants some that gets him through. My dad's job is being a carpenter and that is what I want to be when I grow up.

Brylee S. said...

that is true Tristan because the assembly was good and I think that is a really true statement on saying you can do anything you want.

My motivation is going to college and I look up to my cousin Brittany and she is going to college and the she wants to be a nurse and that is what I want to do. I also look up to her because she had good grades and got a degree and is doing good in college. That is who I look up to and it is my motivation.

I really liked the assembly I think that it was cool and I think he was saying that anything you do good or bad it is you're fault and that you should be kind and be someone's friend and always have their back and to be successful in life.

I want to be like my Dad. My motivation is to watch him go to work every day for us his family, and I also get the motivation by seeing him do work for our house and my moms car even when he had a long day of work and he is tired.

What makes me like I am is helping my dad do all that work he does at home and by treating my family really good, and also treating the people I am around good too.

The assembly taught to me that everything you do is your fault good or bad. It also taught me that if you keep failing at something even if you are practicing get someone to help you and then you will succeed.

My motivation is my big brother because we like the same things and i look up to him like Jim Jones said the little kids look up to us as role models.I think the assembly taught a good lesson about being kind to others and good choices and bad choices and taking action of responsibility and every thing is your fault.

Jacob S. said...

My motivation is my dad, because when ever I see him do something I see that he never gives up and that he always tries hard when he does stuff. I try to follow my dad because when ever I see him do something I wanna do the same stuff he does like never giving up and try as hard as you can when you do stuff. I thought the assembly was good, he was saying bad or good everything is your fault.

Jack D. said...

What makes me like I am is how people treat me because if I am treated nice by somebody I am in a good mood if I am treated bad by someone I am usually not in a really good mood. I follow my dad because most of the time he is in a good mood and if he is in a bad mood he doesn't take it out on his family and it does not take much to cheer him up. The assembly means to me that you have to try your best and practice. It also meant that you should be happy.

What motivates me is my mom. My mom motivates me because when I look at her I think about how much she has been through, and how she still gets up knowing that there is always tomorrow.

What makes me like I am is what I have been through and knowing I could have gotten it way worse than I did, knowing how lucky I am to have had it how I did and not worse.

Who do I follow? I follow my mom and dad because now that they are not together any more I watch them struggle but still make it through the days.

What did the assembly mean to me? Well it meant a lot to me seeing how Jim Basketball Jones turned out and what he went through, seeing that he knew when the going gets tough you keep going, never give up.

I think that my motivation is to be a photographer because I like to take pictures with my camera a lot.

Well also I think that what the assembly was mostly about was It is always your fault and I guess what I am trying to say is everything you do is your fault.

One lesson I learned is you have to be really nice to people if you want them to be nice to you well another lesson I learned is always try your best no matter how hard it is just keep trying till you get it.

The assembly taught me a lot. Basketball Jones really did give us a lot of lessons. My favorite one that he said was about having someone there for you and watching you, and that you should do the same for other people. A few of the lessons that he taught us were what we should already know and use in general. Like our manners, saying thank you, and just helping people. Especially the kids that are younger than us and don't know so much.

I think the whole point in his Simon Says game is to teach us to listen not to follow, or try not to be first. That game was a good way to teach that too. When he said that we could give our turn up to one of our friends I thought it would be really nice or polite to do so. So I did and ended up with a basketball because I chose Emily and I knew she isn't a follower and she'd win!

A few of my motivations would have to be my teachers. Especially Ms. Wooten and Mr. McGuire, because when I grow up I want to be a teacher. That's always been my dream. I chose those two teachers because they make learning fun, they made me want to be a teacher even more and well they're the best teachers that I've had so far. I really look up to all my teachers though.

Jim Jones was saying that you can do anything that you want to be if you work hard and be kind. Jim Jones was saying that anything you do is your fault good or bad.

I follow my uncle Jason because he does awesome things. I follow him because he goes to other places around the world because he is in the army.

I think that my motivation is my grandma. When I was little, I always wanted to be like her. The reason she is my motivation is because she is fearless. One time she went repelling with her friend in a canyon. They threw the rope down and started to go in. The way down was pitch black and they were going through a hole that was only about two feet wide. They didn't know if the rope had went all the way to the bottom of the cliff, or if it was going to end halfway down. She travels across the country to Montana, Utah, and a bunch of other states. She does stuff that I would be way to scared to do and she is 40 years older than me!

I think that the assembly was trying to say that you should try your best and never, ever give up no matter how hard things get. When you keep trying, you will finally get it right one day. If you give up when you've only tried once or twice, then there is no chance that you will ever get it.

My motivation is to be like my grandpa John because he was in the air force, and he is very supportive about my wishes, but most of all he is nice. What I am trying to say is that the assembly had a lot to do with what my grandpa said. Well any way the assembly taught me that being successful by working hard, also that responsibility is important.

Who motivates me? My dad motivates me. Since he has won State in wrestling. I have always wanted to follow in his footsteps. My dad got me in wrestling in second grade. I really want to follow in my dads footsteps to State. I can't stop trying to get better like my dad did when he wrestled. My dad is my wrestling coach, he always has been. My dad helps me in my schooling to be successful and get a good degree for college.

What I thought about the assembly with Jim Basketball Jones was really cool. I thought want in kindness was really neat. I also liked the " It's your fault." Because it is really cool that you can do the best but it is still your fault. You can do the best on a test in your class but it is still your fault. This is because they are your actions, you did it. So I thought the assembly was really awesome.

My motivation is my brother Ethan because he is in the army and the reason he motives me is how we can go so far away from his family.
What makes me like I am is who I grew up with me friends, family, everyone. I mean most girls care about make-up and clothes but all I really care about is having fun and playing.
I follow myself I don't really want to be like anyone else because I like be me and I have my life all figured out.
What that assembly meant to me was that you should make good choice and ask for help when you need it.That you should be nice to everyone not just certain people.

My motivation would be my big sister Kayla.I have always wanted to be able to ride horses like her, and barrel race like her.I thin it is so cool how she can do it and I wish that I could have enough courage to do something like that, like she does but I don't.I want her to teach me sometime but we don't have horses anymore.I don't know why I have always wanted to be like her but I have ever since I was little. My sister is not much older than me she is fifteen and I am eleven. It is not that I want to be like her it is just that I wish I could be able to do the things that she can it is amazing to me.

I thought that the program was awesome the amazing things that he could do with the basketball. It meant a lot to me, his moral to it all was you can do anything as long as you practice and practice until you get it.Also everything that you do is your fault no matter if it is good or bad.

My motivation is my sister because when I was younger I would have to go to her softball games and other stuff like that. When I was watching her do all this cool stuff is inspired me to be just like her. I did this by doing most of the sorts she did like soccer softball an baseball and when I would need help on this stuff I would go to her or my dad for help. That is what made me good at the sports I played.

Some of the other things that make me who I am today is that when I was at home she would help me on every thing I did so I could get better. I think this made me a better person because when I see some one struggling I would help them out because that is what I was tough.

The person that I follow is my dad because he is kind of like my sister he helps me with all the stuff I need help on and we almost have all the same interest

I think that the assembly was educational because he was teaching us about being kind, and always having your friends backs. Jim is the kind of person that doesn't give up, and he gets help when he needs help. He tries his hardest to accomplish what he wants to accomplish.

I think my motivator is my Aunt because she graduated school, and she is now going to college, and has a good paying job. She is always got good grades in college. My Aunt is a great role model. I always like being around her. I think that she is a great role model not for just me but for a lot of kids.

What makes me like I am today is racing my four wheeler because that is the only spot I really know how to do and I know i'm good and if did not race I would a way different person than I am today and that is really what made me who I am today.

I think that I follow my dad because he is what i have always wanted to be like I have always loved what my dad does like he is smart and I love what he does in life I want to have ever than that he does and even his job.

The assembly meat to me because I got some really good tips about life like Jim basketball Jones keep saying that it is always your fault no matter what you did the good the bad it was always your fault and he had a lot of cool tricks to show and now I know that I want to keep trying that's the key to success.
