Is That Book Exciting?

OK, so you are sitting here in Reading Workshop during SSR (Sustained Silent Reading).  I look up from my book and I see you fidgeting in your chair.  You are squirming like your seat is on fire.  You turn the page without even reading the whole page.  You look around the room, but you can't find anyone to join you in your boredom.  Uh oh, are you like the Queen of Fake Reading?

If your book isn't drawing you in, you need to get a better book.  There are 12,000 books with several thousand titles in the book room.  Find one that you can be a part of and read.  Don't read a book that isn't exciting.

The guy beside you is staring at his book so intensely you think he might stare a hole in the page.  What is going on with him?  Why is he looking at his book like that?  He won't even look your way.  He is pulling the book closer and closer to his face.  He has a death grip on it.

Guess what?  Some books are exciting and he found a great one.  He found a book with action and adventure, that he understands.  He has become a part of his book.  He is living in it and with every twist and turn in the plot, he is drawn more and more into the story.

What book are you reading?  How does the author draw you into the book?  What makes the book you are reading exciting?

I am reading the book called On The Run,The Fugitive Factor by Gordon Korman. The book is very exciting it makes you want to keep reading the book and finish it.The part that is exciting is when they are on a dune buggy and something happens to then that makes them escape a place that they were taken too. Plus Gordon Korman is very descriptive and makes you read the book and sometimes it feels like there is a spell on the book that makes you read the book even though you want to stop reading you can't. That is how amazing his books are.

I am reading TimeScape
written by Robert Liparulo. How he draws me is how interesting the book gets after every chapter, like this,
("I was trying to catch the creature and put him in the portal but the creature grabbed him too)!

I am reading Blood and Sand. It is written by Damien Graves. One thing the author does to put you on the edge of your seat is that the to kids in my book find the dog tags of this guy they call the sandman because his sand sculptures are so realistic. I think that this book is a must read if you like scary things.

I am reading The Kind of Friends We used to be written by France O'roark Dowell. The book is about cheer leading and playing guitar,Kate said “she felt so natural, the way her hand fit around the neck, the curve of the body resting in her right hand”.I like that part because she think the guitar is made just for her.

I am reading Among the Barons by Margret Peterson. The author draws me into this book by putting twists and turns in it.In my book Luke Garner is pretending to be Lee Grant. The author makes it exciting because she does one thing then she ends the chapter and makes you want to just go ahead and read the rest of the book. Lee (luke) had the real Lee Grant's brother come to his school and stay there. But then there was a fire so they both had to go to the Grants, even though it's not Luke's real family. Then it gets really exciting because the real Lee's brother's body-guard wakes Luke up to talk to him .

This book is really exciting and I would suggest you to read it and not just skim over it and flip through pages. Cause you will miss a lot of good stuff!

I am reading Among The Brave . I find it every interesting. The author of the book is Margaret Peterson Haddix. What is happening at the part I am reading a boy named Trey is in a duct trying to find his friends. That's all I will tell you cause I don't want to tell you about the whole book, you would not get a chance to read it.

I love how the author puts a lot of detail into the book. That's what makes me understand what is going on in the book. A book is not fun when you can't understand it. I think we all agree there. I am almost done with the series. I have two more books! I am so excited to finish the series! And after that I will try t to find anther book written by Margaret Peterson Haddix.

I am reading The Maze Runner written by James Dashner.

The author draws me into my book and I know that because at the beginning of the book, it starts out about this boy named Thomas can't see anything, then these boys come up and are being mean to him and its making me wonder if them boys are the ones who hurt him.

The reason my book is exciting is because my book is action. The reason that makes my book exciting is because that's the kind of books I like to read. This book is a really exciting book, if you like book like this I would recommend this book!

I am reading woods runner by Gary Pualsen. It is full of mystery because Samuel must find out why people took his parents. It is also full of edge of your seat excitement because you want to know where Samuel is going to be next. like when he followed the red coats to find his parents. And he would see everything that would happen.

The book I am reading is The Wimpy Kid Movie Dairy by Jeff Kinney. The author had me so interested in the first book that when I heard there was more I wanted to read them. This is the recentest book that Jeff has made. This book has incredible movie pictures. The first part of the book is how the movie all came together. This book also includes the other Diary Of A wimpy Kid movie, Rodrick Rules. If you have never watched any of these Diary Of A Wimpy Kid movies and you haven't read the books then you wouldn't probally know that Rodrick is Greg Heffley's brother.

Jeff Kinney makes these books for entertainment and laughter. I really like the books and you will probally like them too. Check them out at your local library. :)

I am reading The Maze Runner. This book is by James Dashner. My language arts teacher Mr.McGuire suggested this book to me. It is really scary. Like one time they pulled a girls dead body out of a box. This so far is one of the best books I've ever read. I am happy Mr.McGuire suggested this book to me. I hope to read more of the books by James Dashner.

The book that I am reading is Kidnapped The Search. The book is amazing. I would really recommend the book. The reason the book is so amazing is this girl named Meg was kidnapped and her brother is trying to find her and the FBI as well but she is trying to plan a escape so it is really interesting. Also if you can not find a book in the book room than you have a big problem because Mr.McGuire said there is 12,000 books and if you can not find one than I do not know what to tell you. I am reading The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I got this book on Monday and I am one page 127.

So far this book is very thrilling, and exciting! The most exciting part of The Hunger Games so far is when everyone from district 12 goes to the reaping, Then Effie puts her hand in the giant bowl to put out a girl's name and a boy's name to go in The Hunger Games. Prim's name was only in there once but her name was called! Prim started to walk up to the stage when her sister Katniss volunteered to take her place, Prim started to freak out and say no but if someone volunteers they have to choice but to let them go.

I can't stop reading The Hunger Games and I don't want it to end!!

I am reading No More Dead Dogs by Gordan Korman.

The reason that I keep reading the book is because it's about a football player a who quits the team for a school play. When he quits all the football players aren't his friend any more. Although he does make more friends.from where you will have to find out?

I am reading The Maze Runner by James Dashner. The Maze Runner is what of the most exciting I have ever picked out before in my life. As you read about Thomas and the others you will see how hard it is to live on the Glade.
Thomas the main character of this book is in a mine shaft with no one else besides him.As the mine shaft goes up he meets the others boys and girls of Glade. As Thomas goes though the Glade he find out he can not remember anything from his past barely even his first name.
When Thomas wonders on though the Glade to find out more people are like him all different but all of them barely know there first name too. Will Thomas make it out a live or will he end up like the rest of the Glade.

The book I'm reading is Scary Stories 3 by Alvin Schwarts. There are many different stories is this book and one of them is about a doll that comes to life and scares these two farmers and has a violent ending. Also the book has REALLY detailed pictures and when I mean detailed I mean gross. There are about 115 pages to this book so If you like medium sized scary books this is the book for you. Almost after every story I got angry because they always had a cliff hanger and that's how I got hooked on all these books.

I am reading a book called Suck it Up by Brain Meehl. The thing that makes me want to keep reading this book is because the main character Morning gets turned into a vampire when he was little. From there on he has just drank a drink called blood light because he doesn't like human blood. Morning and his friends Penny and Portia stay in a Hollywood sweet for a news report. The book is really fascinating with all of the mysterious, exciting, adventure.

In the book Marcus Jordan meets a friend named Charlie Popovitch, in case you don't know who that is he is a NFL football player that played for the Bengals and the Chagers which are my two favorite teams. And Marcus meets him in Three Alarm Park. Charlie gives "the pop" to Jordan. This is just an exciting book that I encourage a lot of people to read. I also can relate to this book. Let me tell you if you start this book, you will finish it and I gaurentee you will love it.

I am reading Mocking Jay by Suzanne Collins.

The Mocking Jay is a very exciting book but my favorite moment is when Katniss Everdeen (main character) escapes from the arena and then is pretty much forced to be the mocking jay.The mocking jay is the symbol of fighting for freedom from Panem.

Being forced to go into the arena twice Katniss thinks fighting for freedom from the capital is the right thing to do.But is it?Or is it worth giving up against the capital and being forced to follow the rules of the capital.

The book draws me in because I love twisted books because they are different and creepy but that's what makes the books good.

I am reading Among The Free by Margaret Peterson. It is one of the best books I ever read. When you start to read this book it will pull you in and keep you there. This book is about third children that try to over throw the government. I can't tell you if they do or don't over throw the government but I can tell you that it's a good book. In the book Luke is forced to shoot an old lady but he threw the gun down and ran.

I am reading In The Girl's Locker Room By:Todd Strasser. The one thing that makes me want to keep reading is, there are these boys and they really want to see what the book in the girls locker room says. The only thing is they don't know if the kissing book is even real or not, one of the boys Gary promises he saw the book but Wilson doesn't think that it even exists. One day they decide to finally steal the book if there even is one... so when they try to sneak into the girls locker room it turns out that the girls are in there (so that kind of back fires on them.)

The author of this book did such a great job on making this book so exciting. The author draws me in by all the excitement and by all the questioning threw out the book. He really draws me because of all the drama and problems. This book is a lot different than a lot of the other books that I've read in the past because I usually read books that are more scary or happy not as much drama with a lot of problems in it. When I started reading this book I honestly didn't think that I would like it because of the huge difference in books but it turns out that it is one of the best books I have ever read!

I am reading Chasing Lincoln's Killer written by James Swanson. I love this book. It is amazing. It's so exciting.
It's about the planning and how President Lincoln and couple of other really great people got killed right after the civil war.
The best part that I've read is when President Lincoln comes back to life I thought he was died. But guess not. It's a great book to read I will let my friends know how great it is.

I am reading The Hunger Games written by Suzanne Collins. I picked this book because all of my friends have read and said they loved the book. So I decided to give it a try.

Right when I started reading it I was attached. I couldn't believe how good it was. What really dragged me into it was the beginning because I liked when Effie Trinket was picking the names out of the bucket because Katniss's little sister Prim gets chosen to go to the Hunger Games. But Katniss didn't want her sister to get killed. So Katniss steps up and goes to the Hunger Games.

That's why I this book is one of the best books I have ever read. So don't fake read just find a book that you really like!!

I am reading Catching Fire written by Suzanne Collins. I really like this book before I started this book I read The Hunger Games and I want to keep going on to the book called Mocking Jay.One thing that happened in my book that really got me into it was they was talking about The Hunger Games.

Also how it got me into the book was they wanted to try to forget about it. Also the victory tour makes that impossible.

So that is some of the things that made this book interesting. I don't want to give to much of the book away. I think if anyone read The Hunger Games should read Catching Fire.

Maybe if you didn't like The Hunger Games then I wouldn't read Catching Fire. I really enjoy this book. There is so many twist and turns I really like it but that's just me.

I think if they ever made a movie about Catching Fire it would be awesome.

I am reading Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins.

It`s about a girl named Katniss who in the previous book The Huger Games volunteered for the yearly reaping. Now the she`s back home with her friend Peeta ( he was in the Hunger Games with her ) they face worse problems. Katniss now must face victory tour. Which means she needs to go to all the districts for a speech . If she messed up she`ll cause a uprising. A uprising is when a district (territory) goes out of control.

Where I am in the book Katniss drank alcohol and is now not feeling well. She went to Haymitch (mentor in The Hunger Games ) to talk about the third quarter quell.

who will go Katniss and Haymitch or peeta? I have no idea but the book is getting better every page I turn! Like when Katniss jumped over the twenty five feet to the ground to get over the electric fence.

I am reading Claim to Fame by Margaret Peterson. The book is very good so far. In the beginning there was already something that had gotten me excited. Which was Lindsay was kidnapped. She was siting on her balcony. Actually is not even really a balcony. Just a piece of unsteady wood and a ankle size railing.

She was staring off into the distance and feeling very sad. Then all of a sudden someone puts their hand on her mouth. Telling her not to scream. Lindsay let her body go limp while he put her in the car. Then they took off but they were going slow not speeding. Until they were going the wrong way and did a U turn.

They took her to the Party Barn where they were going to keep her until Roz got there. Lindsay fell asleep on the couch. Thats all I can really tell you but it is a very shocking and exciting book.

I am reading the book Holes by Louis Sachar. The best part of the book is when Stanley gets sent to Camp Green Lake for stealing a pair of really expensive baseball cleats from the homeless shelter. While going to camp Stanley imagines that the camp will be fun, but when he gets there its a real dump. But the people are nicer than they look and Stanley ends up being best friends with a kid no one likes named Zero, who is actually a nice kid.One day Zero runs away so Stanley tries to find him and when he does Zero is really sick so Stanley takes him to the top of the mountain and gives Zero a hot fudge sundae. (but it really is an onion)

I am reading House Of Dark Shadows written by Robert Liparulo. This is a adventurous, action, spooky book. The story is bacicly the Kings move from L.A. to a small little town. In their new fixer upper 15-year-old Xander notices something strange about this house. Now its up to him and his brother David try to get rid of it.

One of the best parts I've read so far is when Xander goes thought a mysterious door with a gladiator costume. Hes teleported to a gladiator arena where he learns not alone. Every time you turn the page in this book it gets better and better. I think a lot of people will like this book.

I am reading The Hunger Games written by Suzanne Collins. I love the way I have no idea whats going to happen next in the book. When ever I start to read I get drawn in to the book like its a little movie playing in my mind. I also love the way the author describes every detail from exactly what shes wearing to what the scenery looks like. It is a really good book and I would have to say it is one of my favorite books that I have read.

I am reading Big Nate In A Class By Himself written by Lincoln Peirce . I just started reading Big Nate and so far, it's pretty good.
Its about a kid named Nate who's a sixth-grader. His best friends are Francis and Teddy. He also has an annoying sister named Ellen.

I like it because it's really funny and entertaining. It's kind of like Diary of a Wimpy Kid, but kind of not. It's a great book and I will be reading more Big Nate books in the future.
