Reading During Christmas Break

Are you going to have a little spare time over the holidays?  Want to do something enjoyable and earn some extra credit?  All you have to do is READ!

If you complete two or more books over break, and comment on them, you will earn extra credit!

The best part is the more you read, the more extra credit you earn.  And it will count as minutes on the next Read at Home assignment, too.  A couple of years ago, one student read over 1,400 minutes during Christmas break.  How many books will you read?

The books I read over the break were Uprising and Eagle Strike! These books are very different from each other because one is based on a true story in history and the other is a made up action book. However, I really enjoyed them both! Uprising has a time setting of the 1800s and has to do with the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire. Eagle Strike has a time setting of today and has to do with spies and all that stuff. I would highly recommend these books to anyone and everyone!

I read two books over the week and they were called Fire in the Sky and The 6th graders. Fire in the Sky is more action and its about aliens. The 6th graders is about little kids who want to grow up and be bad like the 6th graders. they are really good.

The books that I read were The Thief Lord and Midnight. I think I liked The Thief Lord the most because it had more action in it. Midnight is about a little girl who lives on a farm. It is set in 1902. On her 5th birthday, her parents got her a horse. She grows up with the horse her whole life, and she even has him when she's 73! Since she was to old to go out and take care of the horse, people come and take it away. I thought the book was really boring, and did not like it much.

In The Thief Lord, two boys named Prosper and Bo run away from their aunt and go live on their own. They find a group of kids who have run away from their home's too and they all live together in an abandoned movie theater. Their aunt sends a detective after them and they have to make sure he doesn't find them. It was a really cool book.

Books that I read over the break were Twilight backstage book, and The 39 clues black book of secrets. In the first book the Twilight backstage it tells about the Cullin family tradition and their clothing. That book was good because I have watched every Twilight saga movie so far and I didn't notice any of the things that the book told me . Now I will pay attention when I watch those movies. The second book I read the 39 clues black book of secrets was a good book also. I have read every 39 clues series book so far except the 11th book and the Black book of secrets was a huge help because it told me things that I needed to know and stuff that helped me understand the books better.

I read 2 books and I had read for 1,005 minutes I finished Mackenzie Blue Friends Forever and a book called Friday. It is about a dog and how he was in the pound and how he found a home and they abused him and it was not a good home for him. Mackenzie Blue is a book about her and her friend and how they are friends forever and how they have fights but are still freinds even no her friend moved to Paris and she lived far away from her. They would chat online and they would get into fights and that is how the would fight but then they were friends forever even when they would fight online.

Over the break I read Flat Broke, Harris And Me, Middle School: The Worst Years Of My Life, Big Nate Strikes Again, Diary Of A Wimpy Kid, The Forgotten Helper and A Whisper And A Wish.

Flat Broke- I don't really remember much about it because I ended it right at the beginning of break. But I do remember it was a good book. It was short but still good. I didn't really like the ending too well. I just don't think that's how it should've ended.

Harris And Me- This book was just awesome! Many people recommended it to me and I'm glad they did. I thought some parts were funny and then again other ones got really serious. It made me want to keep reading! I could barely put it down because it was so good.

Middle School: The Worst Years Of My Life- This book was good but I just couldn't really get into it. I don't think there was enough action or excitement going on in it.

Big Nate Strikes Again- This book was great. I thought it was a nice and cute book. Nate was funny which made the whole book funny. I liked the part where Nate and Gina got paired up to be partners but Gina doesn't want Nate messing up the project so she did all the work. But in the end Nate saved their butts with his comics!

Diary Of A Wimpy Kid- I loved this book too. It was funny. I liked the part where Manny dumped his unfinished cereal in the little kids potty and Gregory had to clean it up. That was really funny. It made me laugh!

The Forgotten Helper- This book was short and cute. It got me into a Christmasy spirit. I liked it, but towards the ending it changed completely. I never would have thought that was how it was going to end. But that made the book even better. My favorite part was where the Elf dropped a pine cone on the little girls head.

A Whisper And A Wish- This book was just awesome. I can't wait to find the other books that go along with this one. I loved this book. I thought this book taught a good lesson. 1) Never take your friends pills even if you're just holding them for them. 2) Don't let your friends talk you into doing something that you don't want to. It could all end very bad. I would definitely recommend this to anyone.
