Spelling Does Matter

Begal Sign
I was driving yesterday morning, about a mile from the school and saw this sign. At first it caught my eye, because I have beagles. I am not sure if a beagle is the same thing as a begal, but I think it might be, at least at one house.

Now maybe you aren't the best speller. In fact, maybe you can't spell very well at all. Maybe you count on spell check, and the computer's dictionary for everything you write. Maybe you use Answers.com like a peanut butter sandwich uses jelly.

Here is the problem. What if some day you have a begal puppy for sale? Will you have drivers running in the ditch, laughing and shaking their heads, while they point at your sign? Here are your choices, either learn to spell or just buy this product.

Checking your spelling really will help your grade. It also is good to check because next time more than likely you'll remember how to spell that word. So that is why if I do not know a word I spell check to make sure I'm correct.

Spelling is the basis of learning. When you first learn to spell basic words, then every day you become smarter. This idea can then be duplicated through most everything you do. This includes reading over everything carefully to check spelling and identify any mistakes. Even as adults spelling is important because we use it everyday life from job applications to grocery lists.

I like to write but sometimes I don't know how to spell things. SO I sound the word out or I even write somewhere else before putting it where it needs to go. Writing a word out helps me to know how to spell it. That is because I am a better at looking at something then to hear it.Spelling is important.

I think if pass that sign I will let them know that their begal bussiness will run beter if they go cheek their spelling. Mabe the dog is some kind of mutt and when you put the names together it = begal. for example puggle beagle + pug.

I did that once I made a sign that I spelled a couple words wrong and I was selling fishing gear and spelled lure wrong.

I am not the best speller but when I do not know how to spell a word I will ask about it. If I was them I would have read it over and when they do that they would have caught it. If they did not see it then, well they should really take a spelling class.

I agree that spelling is very important, but I do not agree with making fun of anyone. I am sure everyone has spelled something wrong. I think that there most be a more tactful way to teach students to spell than teasing someone.

I told my mom and dad about you having the blog about the begal puppy and the product that those people should use unless they really have one. My mom and dad said that they agread to.

Angela,

You are most definitely right. However, when someone puts a four foot square sign in front of their house, you would think they would make sure they spelled correctly. If this post helps one student realize how people see those that are so careless about the English language and its usage, then it is worth it.
